Redwood City
Redwood City is the third-largest city in San Mateo County and headquarters to several high tech companies including Oracle, Electronic Arts, Evernote, Box, and Informatica. Rich in history, it was originally a port town during the gold rush and is the oldest city on the San Francisco Peninsula. Approximately 27 miles (43 km) south of San Francisco and 24 miles (39 km) northwest of San Jose it had an estimated population of 86,685 in 2017. Redwood City enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate with an average of 255 sunny days a year, which it boasts via the city slogan: ‘Climate Best by Government Test’. With a vibrant downtown, Redwood City is an excellent gathering spot, that boasts a generous variety of eateries, from upscale dining and charming pubs to aromatic coffee shops and intimate wine bars, there is even a tea room. In contrast, Redwood City offers many options for the nature-lovers, including Blair Island with its 150 species of bird and wildlife, including harbor seals who nurse their pups on the Island and Edgewood Park & Nature Preserve producing a spectacular array of wildflowers and a contrast of woodlands and grasslands.
